Utilising our Extra Strong Sea Turtle Carrier to retrieve a Green Sea Turtle (Chelonia mydas) for a medical inspection
It is with so much joy that we learn how easy to use one of our go-to carriers has been for our dear friends at Rotterdam Zoo in the Netherlands!
We have received wonderful video footage plus a detailed report of the mission

"Hi Clem & Maureen
The Extra Strong Sea Turtle Carrier has been a really great help with this operation!
Unfortunately we were not able to train the turtle in time and a diver had to catch it, but you can see how easily he goes into the stretcher and is hoisted out of the water.
Very handy are the carabiner hooks with which the straps can be quickly released.
This gives you quick space to work on the animal.
The turtle had to be checked on the tail, as in the past a shark had bit it
And the neck also had to be seen by the Vet, as another (hawksbill) turtle has put his mouth in there.
Furthermore, a transponder was placed, blood was taken and he was measured and weighed.
The tires we put the animal on worked very well. This idea was suggested by a colleague. You can see how calm the animal remains throughout the process!
The plate has been weighted with the lead blocks, which have been attached to the bottom of the device with tie wraps. Also fine I think.
We did have to make the straps a bit shorter by tying a knot in them. When at their standard length the carrier cannot be hoisted high enough. Also solved!

De Extra Sterke Zee Schildpad Carrier is echt een geweldige hulp geweest bij deze operatie.
Helaas hadden we de schildpad niet op tijd kunnen trainen en moest een duiker hem vangen, maar je ziet hoe gemakkelijk hij in de brancard gaat en uit het water wordt gehesen.
Erg handig zijn de karabijn haken waarmee de banden snel zijn los te maken.
Hierdoor heb je snel ruimte om aan het dier te werken.
De schilpad moest gecheckt worden aan de staart, daar heeft een haai in gebeten, en ook de nek moest de vet even zien.
Daar heeft de andere (karet) schildpad z'n bekkie in gezet.
Verder is een transponder geplaatst, bloed afgenomen en is hij gemeten en gewogen.
De autobanden waar we het dier op hebben gezet werkte erg goed.
Van een collega afgekeken. Je ziet hoe kalm het dier bleef.
De plaat is verzwaard met de loodblokken, maar die zitten nu aan de onderkant, met tieraps vastgemaakt. Ook prima denk ik.
We hebben de draagbanden wel iets korter moeten maken door er een knoop in te leggen.
Door hun lengte kan de carrier niet hoog genoeg getakeld worden. Ook opgelost zo!
Gebruik de beelden waar je wilt, daar is toestemming voor en nogmaals dank voor jullie betrokkenheid
