Marine Animal Isolation Device / M.A.I.D. (Custom Build)

This larger isolation device is ideal for the quarantine procedure of larger marine animals such as pregnant sharks, and/or keeping new stock in a separate area before release into the tank.

This version features panels that can be taken out individually. We incorporated this feature to assist when training animals to enter the device. The flexible entrance size can help build confidence in the animal and then reduced and eventually closed behind them. It also means that a damaged panel can easily be replaced.

We now also offer Zipper panels to accommodate letting marine animals enter and leave the device more easily.

This device is Custom Build to your specification.

Important notice; we supply the panels to the desired measurements, and the customer will acquire the tubing locally. This ensures it is more cost effective, and saves on shipping cost.

If you require 'flooring' then we can advise which company can assist with such option.

Marine Animal Isolation Device / M.A.I.D. (Standard)

Same concept as above, however this device is offered in one standard size.

The device features:

  • A rectangle frame design.
  • Removable panels are made of heavy duty mesh.
  • Mesh panels, measuring 180 x 120cm.
  • Panels feature eyelets to accommodate secure fastening with bungee cords.
  • Exterior seams to ensure a smooth and safe inside for the fish.
  • Thick panels of Velcro on each side to connect panels together securely.
  • 15cm wide band of Velcro backed with PVC to cover and connect the front and rear panels.
  • Zippers fitted on 2 panels to accommodate letting marine animals enter and leave the device easily.
Redesigned For Spider Crabs

Redesigned For Spider Crabs

A new and innovative Marine Animal Isolation Device (MAID) which is designed for 'bath treatments'.

Great news for everyone who has Teleost, Spider Crabs and other small and medium sized marine animals and Crustaceans and struggles with treating these safely!

We have designed a new version of 'isolation' device which enables you to do bath treatments - within the cage / tank - with no sign of cross contamination of water!

This means that treatments like coppercare & aquatet can be administered in-situ. And, without the additional stress involved with moving an animal.

As you may well know many bath treatments (such as coppercare) can severely impact your filter bacteria, and cause major chemistry spikes.

This bacteria lives within the filter and breaks down harmful ammonia & nitrite that could seriously impact fish health.

The other benefit the device offers is that your site might be short of quarantine space.

Which means that you can have one of these to increase the number of quarantine spaces available.

Please get in touch if you are interested, then we will run the technical details passed you and quote you on the ideal sized device for your aquarium.

“We worked with Clem & Maureen to develop a suitable treatment mechanisms for our Giant Japanese Spider Crabs, so we could easily look to schedule in bi-annual pro-active treatments for blackspot commonly found in crustaceans.

This design allows us to safely administer aquatet treatments to these wonderful animals, safe in the knowledge that the treatment could be administered without effecting the life support systems.”

Throughout Clem & Maureen were great in helping discuss plans, ideas & possible solutions’.

Richard Oades - Assistant Curator @ The Deep

The Deep has used the Marine Animal Isolation Device (MAID) to successfully isolate and re-introduce animals following treatment regimes, to grow on juvenile animals till their release and have established the MAID as an isolated feeding zone for our turtles.

It has proved to be a worthy investment for The Deep in the care of our animals.

“Research by the EAZA European studbook has shown that using a separation pen (such as the MAID) to protect pregnant female blacktip reef sharks significantly increases the survival of new-born pups compared to allowing mothers to give birth in an exhibit surrounded by predators."

Sam Rees MSc (Curator - Skegness Aquarium)

We’ve just used our mini MAID for the first batch introduction of fish to our main tank, worked a treat! It’s easy to assemble and disassemble, and move about in and out of the water.

The mesh is strong enough to add some hiding spots and cope well with the flow. The addition of the Velcro lid means we can suspend it anywhere in the tank. Big thanks to Clem for sorting these modifications out for us!
